Is Weed Really Safer Than Alcohol?

A Long Debate

There are tons of people that enjoy smoking marijuana. Others prefer having a drink every weekend. Both sides of the aisle will say that their drug of choice is safer. The truth of the matter is that there is scientific proof that weed is indeed safer than alcohol.

Some of the most notable reasons will be listed below.

No Weight Gain

Obesity is a serious problem. It can lead to diabetes and heart problems. This is why weed is safer than alcohol. Alcohol, especially beer, can pack on the calories very quickly. Even if you’re mixing drinks, you’re still going to be packing on a lot of calories.

Weed doesn’t come with any calories. However, you might get munchies. Nevertheless, weed definitely wins in this category.

No Blackouts

Have you ever consumed enough alcohol that you blacked out and forgot what you did? This is very common for binge drinkers.

When you drink too much alcohol, there is a good chance that you’re going to blackout and forget what happen when you wake up in the morning.

This is something that you never have to worry about when smoking weed. It simply doesn’t pose the same risk.

ETOH Poisoning

Drinking too much alcohol is incredibly dangerous. If you drink excessively in a single night, there is a good chance that you’re going to get ethanol poisoning. Ethanol is found in all forms of alcoholic beverages, including beer, vodka, wine and whiskey.

This can lead to abdominal pain, internal bleeding, vomiting, coma, and even death. Suffice to say, binge drinking can be incredibly risky. Weed doesn’t contain ethanol, so it doesn’t carry this risk. Again, weed is far safer.

Alcohol And Violence

As you likely already know, alcohol makes you feel like you’re ten feet tall and bulletproof. Unfortunately, you’re not. After several beers or shots of vodka, you’ll be much more likely to get angry and get into a fight.

Alcohol has been linked to drunken fights and even domestic violence. In 2014, a study concluded that cannabis was much different. Cannabis tends to calm the user. Therefore, the rates of violence associated with cannabis use are very low.

Dreaded Hangovers

After a night of binge drinking, you can pretty much guarantee that you’re going to wake up feeling terrible in the morning. You’ll probably feel terribly sick and you’ll have a headache. You might just want to go back to sleep and stay there all day.

Too much drinking and too many hangovers can negatively impact your social and professional life. Weed is completely different. It doesn’t cause any hangovers, so you can smoke as much as you like and still feel great in the morning.

Many Alcohol Related Injuries

Alcoholics tend to do the dumbest things. They’ll find themselves tripping over their own feet very frequently. This might seem comical, but it is actually much more dangerous than you might imagine. Just think about it.

Cops test drunken drivers to determine whether or not they can walk in a straight line. If you can’t walk in a straight line, you might just step over a ledge and get yourself seriously injured. Weed is also safer in this category.

The risk of injury when smoking marijuana is much lower.

Drunk Driving

There is a good chance that you know someone who has been in an accident involving a drunk driver. Sadly, this is very common. Drunken drivers kill people pretty much every day. A recent report stated that states with legalized weed experienced an increase in car accidents.

However, that same report did not clarify the reason for those crashes. Therefore, it is unknown whether or not weed was the cause.

On the contrary, there is plenty of scientific evidence proving that alcohol consumption greatly increases the risks of vehicle accidents.

Addiction Risks

It should come as no surprise to learn that alcoholism is a major problem all around the world. There are tons of people who have succumbed to alcohol. This includes people from all walks of life. Alcohol abuse is destructive for the user and their family members.

It can really ruin relationships and send the user into financial turmoil. To date, there has never been any evidence to suggest that weed is physically addictive.

Alcohol Ruins The Body

While you’re at it, you should understand that alcohol can actually ruin the body. It has been known to cause a wealth of diseases. It can decrease the performance of the immune system, while also causing cancer, pancreatitis, cirrhosis of the liver and so much more.

If you drink too much alcohol over your lifetime, there is a good chance that you’re going to develop some type of illness. This is generally not a problem with cannabis.

Marijuana has never been linked to any serious disease. In fact, it is sometimes recommended for the treatment of certain problems.

Damages The Brain

Your brain is your body’s most important organ. You should do everything you can to protect it. Unfortunately, alcohol has been known to damage the brain. It has always been said that marijuana kills brain cells.

However, many recent studies conclude that this simply isn’t true. In fact, it is now believed that marijuana may actually protect the brain cells from damage. It is proven that alcohol will indeed damage brain cells. Again, it is clear that marijuana is the much safer.

Alcohol Deaths Are High

Finally, you should know that the deaths linked to alcohol use are very high. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention concluded that more than 37,000 deaths each year are attributed to alcohol use alone.

This is in the United States alone. There is a good chance that the number is in the millions when other countries are taken into consideration. This is one of the main reasons that weed is safer than alcohol.

The CDC doesn’t even bother having a category for deaths attributed to marijuana. Suffice to say, you’re much more likely to die drinking alcohol than you are from smoking ma
